Coming Soon to Broadway

This week, I saw two spectacular shows that just recently hit Broadway:

Plaza Suite — An inside look at three different couples’ experiences in Suite 719 at NYC’s Plaza Hotel — A couple on the verge of divorce on their anniversary, a big-time Hollywood filmmaker and his high school girlfriend, and a married couple trying to coax their daughter out of the locked bathroom to go downstairs and get married. Starring Ms. NYC herself Sarah Jessica Parker and real-life husband Matthew Broderick as all three couples.

Take Me Out — The intense story of one professional baseball player’s experience coming out as gay. Starring Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy as the baseball player, with Suits’ Patrick J. Adams narrating the story and Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson providing a bit of comic relief.

That leads me to a few more shows that have just started their Broadway stints, or are coming soon:

Funny Girl — This highly anticipated revival of the classic musical, with Beanie Feldstein (of Lady Bird and Booksmart fame) as Fanny Brice, played its first preview last night at the August Wilson Theatre. Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe winner Jane Lynch, Tony nominee Ramin Karimloo and Jared Grimes round out the A-list cast.

Mr. Saturday Night — This Broadway adaptation of the film follows a comedian who hit his peak 40 years ago in the early years of television as he tries to take back the spotlight and his family. Appearing alongside creator, co-writer and lead Billy Crystal is Tony winner Randy Graff, Oscar nominee David Palmer, Broadway staple and solo vocalist Shoshana Bean and The Good Fight actress Chasten Harmon. Mr. Saturday Night starts previews at the Nederlander Theater on March 29.

POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive — This play’s name is fairly self-explanatory, and the titular seven women are played by Rachel Dratch, Lilli Cooper, Lea DeLaria, Julianne Hough, Suzy Nakamura, Julie White and Vanessa Williams. Written by The Morning Show writer Selina Fillinger and directed by Tony winner Susan Stroman, the entire production is the epitome of girl power. POTUS will begin previews at the Shubert Theatre on April 14.

These are already some of the hottest tickets in town. Digital lotteries for Funny Girl and Mr. Saturday Night are already up on Lucky Seat and Broadway Direct, respectively. Don’t miss out!
