Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Until recently, I hadn’t realized how many types of brain injuries exist. It’s more than just car accidents and concussions.

My uncle had what should have been a relatively simple brain surgery (as simple and routine as brain surgery can be, I suppose) a month ago today. After an infection and a second surgery to undo the first, they’re calling his condition a traumatic brain injury.

He’s thankfully now at one of the best places he could be for his recovery, TIRR in the medical center. It’s incredible how much touching your brain impacts every single thing in your life. It seems really obvious, but isn’t something you think about on a daily basis.

Anyone who knows me knows that he’s always been like a second father to my sister and me. We know he’s in good hands, but it’s so unreal to see how quickly anyone can go from self-sufficient to not. We’re all looking forward to his recovery and coming home, especially little Kona who can’t make visiting hours. ❤️
